The boys and I made a birthday card for dad this morning. Matthew is wearing the green paint. Jonathan is eating the red paint. Next time, I think I'll trace their hands with crayon instead.

I grew up in the Adirondacks, where I could walk to three different lakes whenever I wanted to swim. I miss that. In college, I studied creative writing, but I knew that writing fiction would not pay my bills. So I worked my butt off to become a journalist. I met my husband at the newspaper and I loved my job. But I gave it up 11 years later when our first son was born. I'd known too many reporters who had to disappoint their kids because some idiot shot somebody 15 minutes before quitting time. I didn't want to be that kind of mom. The shift to motherhood seemed like the right time to return to my real passion: fiction. So, between stints of teaching and freelancing, I wrote a novel. (I'm still looking for an agent, but that's a topic for some other blog) I also gave birth to our daughter. Life was good as I neared my 40th birthday. We had the perfect family (I also have a grown stepdaughter)and I was writing again. Then I discovered I was pregnant. We had recovered from the shock by the time we went to my 20-week ultrasound. But we were stunned once again when we saw two little heads. For the next few hours, all I could do was laugh and cry. Life has not been the same since.

Hey, that's why they make non-toxic paint! I bet they had a great time making that mess :)
Cool... I agree with prior poster... glad it's non toxic. But that is why cameras were invented!

how cute! I should let the babies make more crafts, I just hate the mess afterwards
